The best time for safari in Tanzania is during the dry season from June to October. This is when animals congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot. The Great Migration in Serengeti usually occurs from July to October. However, Tanzania offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round, with the green season (November to May) offering fewer crowds and lower prices.
Yes, most visitors need a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain a tourist visa on arrival at major airports (Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar) or apply online through the Tanzanian eVisa system. The visa is typically valid for up to 90 days. Requirements include a passport valid for at least 6 months, return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds. We recommend checking with your local Tanzanian embassy for the most current requirements.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A & B, typhoid, tetanus, and polio. Malaria prophylaxis is highly recommended as Tanzania is a malaria-risk area. COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements may apply - please check current regulations. Consult with a travel clinic at least 4-6 weeks before your trip.
Kilimanjaro is a non-technical climb, meaning no special climbing skills or equipment are needed. However, it's physically demanding due to the altitude (5,895m/19,341ft). Success rates vary by route, with longer routes having higher success rates (up to 90% on 8-day routes vs 60% on 5-day routes). Good fitness, proper acclimatization, and choosing the right route are key. We provide experienced guides, proper equipment, and carefully planned itineraries to maximize your chances of success.
Essential items include: neutral-colored clothing (khaki, green, brown), comfortable walking shoes, warm layers for early mornings/evenings, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), binoculars, camera with zoom lens, power bank, universal adapter, and any personal medications. For Kilimanjaro climbs, we provide a detailed packing list including specialized gear. Luggage is typically limited to 15kg for light aircraft transfers between parks.
Tanzania is generally safe for tourists, especially when traveling with reputable tour operators. The main concerns are petty theft in urban areas, which can be avoided by taking standard precautions. On safari, always follow your guide's instructions regarding wildlife. We provide 24/7 support throughout your trip, experienced guides, and vetted accommodations. Travel insurance that covers medical evacuation is highly recommended.
